SmartClass Essay Writing competition (SEC) aims at bringing together ambitious secondary school students (ordinary and advanced levels) in Tanzania with a passion for or interest in writing. The competition allows students to demonstrate writing skills at the national level while competing to win exclusive educational opportunities and prizes.
The entire competition is hosted online. Students will respond to the topic provided to showcase their critical thoughts, creative ideas, and written communication skills. Each student will be allowed to submit one essay and each essay will be marked in accordance with the marking rubric.

Eligibility
- Applicant must be a student currently enrolled in ordinary or advanced secondary school.
- Open to all students from the schools which are registered and operating in TanzaniaApplicant must not be a university student.
Guidelines
- Write your essay and save it in pdf or doc format. Font should be Times New Roman, size – 11, space – 1.5, and not more than 500 words.
- If you dont have a computer, you may handwrite and take picture with a good camera.
- Your essay should be written in English and respond to the topic mentioned here.
- Once your essay is ready, click here, fill the form, upload your essay, and click submit button.
- You will receive a notification acknowledging receipt of your essay.
- The submission must be the participant’s original work.
- Any plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
- Application deadline: 2021 September 28th, 23:59 EAT.
- Do not make multiple submissions.
- SmartClass will send feedback to you over email and publicly announce the top three winners in mid-December 2021.

- 1st Place: TZS 1,500,000.00 + TZS 500,000.00 for school + surprises.
- 2nd Place: TZS 750,000.00 + TZS 250,000.00 for school + surprises.
- 3rd Place: TZS 300,000.00 + TZS 200,000.00 for school + surprises.
Winners’ works will get opportunity to be endorsed and published by the top newspapers in Tanzania. All participants and their schools will get certificate of participation.
