The Tanzanian government has said talks are underway with the Kenyan government over the block of maize on the Namanga border.
The block on maize from Tanzania was issued on March 5 2021 by the Kenya Agriculture and Food Authority claiming the presence of fungal toxins in maize from Tanzania and Uganda.
Speaking in Dodoma on Monday, March 8, 2021, the Chief Government of Tanzania Spokesperson, Dr. Hassan Abbas said that so far there is no official information about the rejection of maize from Tanzania to Kenya other than a leaflet that has appeared on the Internet.
“It is true that Tanzanian maize has been blocked on the Namanga border but Hororo is passing and other borders continue to pass now in such a situation we Government to Government must talk,” he said.
He said the issue was still being worked on and talks were ongoing between the two sides.
“Why on the Hororo border maize from the country is flowing but Namanga has been blocked,” questioned Dr Abbas.
