Tanzania m360 SIS School Information System

Tanzania’s m360 SIS School Information System is a daily school reporting mobile information system, that enables instant data collection for school characteristics, daily classroom attendance, evaluation and behavior, teacher and staff distribution, initial enrollment and generates an identification code for each student, that is valid even when the student transfers to a different school. The most important technical characteristic of the application is its ability to instantly transmit data to the sub-national and national levels. To comply with this goal, internet and/or SMS must be available. The application will determine if one of both is available and transmit the data accordingly, without user intervention.

Schools Reporting
These reports show which schools are reporting the different components of m360 SIS in the school. Each record has the number of schools that reported the specific day of the month.

Key Reports
Main Education Statistics Reports, including Key Performance Indicators.

Data Viewer
These reports show the actual data that is being collected for each school. These reports allow the user to browse through the data for each component of m360 SIS. At the end of each record there is a CHECKSUM column. Position the cursor in this column to see all the data for that record.

m360 SIS modules

Baseline

Maintains timely updated database for techers, staff and students (enrollment process). It also includes a database of classrooms, furniture, textbooks and facilities to help facilitate policy and planning decisions. Changes are uploaded only when they are reported, avoiding the need to perform national school infrastructure censuses.

Daily Classroom

Daily Attendance, Evaluation and Behavior are the core of the application. The school principal, the teachers or any staff member collects daily attendance records classroom by classroom. In addition to this, evaluation and behavior records can also be captured on a daily basis.

Finance

The Finance modules allows the school to keep a detailed record of deposits and expenditures. The module has a Balance tab that informes the school of the amount of money thay currently have and also an Avtivity module with allows them to keep track of every transaction.

Reports

Reports are generated at the school level, providing key information for the head teacher. Data is also concentrated with all other schools in the different geo-political levels, producing aggregated web reports. In other words, PORALG can access school records for a specific school or aggregated records for ward, council, region and national levels.

Student and teacher attendance is reported on a daily basis, generating alerts for absentiism. This data is aggregated to wards, councils, regions and national levels.

Evaluation

Evaluation are recorded for every student and subject. End of year calculations are also performed to determine promotion and repetition.

Behaviour

Student behavior plays a major role in academic achievement. A student’s behavior can affect his/her ability to learn as well as other students’ learning environment.
