The 363 MPs present in parliament in Dodoma today, Tuesday, March 30, 2021, voted in favor of confirming Dr Philip Mpango as the Vice President of Tanzania.
Dr Mpango has been confirmed after being nominated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and his name was read in parliament in Dodoma by Speaker Job Ndugai.
“I would like to announce to this House and our country as a whole that there are no votes, all 363 votes are yes so he got 100 percent of all votes.”
“Pursuant to Article 49, the vice-president before taking office shall be sworn in before the Chief Justice of the United Republic of Tanzania on oath of allegiance and any other oath relating to his performance on the date set by the vice-president shall be sworn in,” said Ndugai .
In further clarification, Ndugai said, “The Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania provides for the duration of the term of office of Members of Parliament. Article 71 lists the conditions on which a Member of Parliament ceases to be a Member of Parliament and resigns. President. ”
