Ms. A. Nyemela was appointed the first District Commissioner by Mr. B. Salim was appointed the first District Development Director. When the district was established it had 4 divisions of Rogoro, Serengeti, Nansimo and Kenkombyo as well as two Serengeti and Nyamuswa constituencies.

District was established, Ngoreme Ward which was part of Musoma District became Ngoreme division in Serengeti District while Nansimo and Kenkombyo Wards formed Bunda District, so Serengeti District remained with 2 divisions of Rongoro and Ngoreme. Currently the Serengeti District has 4 Divisions, 30 Wards and 78 Villages, 363 Suburbs and 41,570 Households.
