Chemonics International, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, is recruiting for various technical and program management positions for the anticipated USAID-funded Jifunze Uelewe activity in Tanzania. This 5 year, $39 million project  will focus on sustainably improving literacynumeracy, and social-emotional skills for all  pre-primary and standard 1 – 4 learners in target regions; strengthening the capacity of local and regional government to sustain improved learning outcomes; and increasing community support for safe and inclusive learning environments.

Technical Positions:

  • Deputy Chief of Party – Technical,
  • Teacher Professional Development Lead Literacy Technical Lead,
  • Numeracy Technical Lead, 
  • Inclusion Specialist,
  • Pre-Primary Specialist
  • Community Engagement Lead, and
  • Regional Education Advisors  


  • Advanced degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in education or directly related field; 
  • 10 years of demonstrated experience working in improving early grade education initiatives, including designing and implementing pre-primary and primary literacy and numeracy programs, curriculum development, and teacher professional development activities, particularly promoting gender equity and social and emotional learning 
  • Experience supervising long-term technical staff and short-term assignments; 
  • A strong understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and learning of education projects; 
  • Strong understanding of the development and education issues in East Africa;demonstrated experience working in Iringa, Morogoro, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and/or Zanzibar preferred; 
  • Familiarity with USAID tools and methodologies to improve education outcomes; 
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; 
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity. 

Program Management Positions:

  • Finance and Operations Manager
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Specialist; 
  • Data Lead;
  • Grants Manager; 
  • Book Supply Chain Specialist 


  • A degree in an area of expertise relevant to the position; 
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience; experience on large, complex, donor-funded projects preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience in supervisory positions; 
  • Experience with USAID programming, regulations, and reporting requirements; 
  • Strong working in in East Africa;demonstrated experience working in Iringa, Morogoro, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and/or Zanzibar preferred; 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with government officials, international donors, and private sector stakeholders; 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required; 
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
