The government employs 12,000 teachers in Primary and Secondary schools. Minister of State Office of the President Regional Administration and Local Government Hon. Selemani Jafo said the government is in the process of recruiting 12,000 new teachers for Primary and Secondary Schools and when they are completed they will be announced.

He said this today while speaking on PMO-RALG to describe the achievements made over the past five years in the education sector held in the hall of Dodoma Secondary School.

He said that in the past five years more than 18,000 teachers have been recruited and sent to Primary and Secondary Schools and that another 12,000 jobs directed by President John Magufuli are still in progress.

“I know there are still challenges that is why the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Hon. “John Pombe Magufuli has given instructions to increase the employment of teachers and has given instructions for more than 12,000 jobs. The procedures are still being completed. The government will add more jobs for primary and secondary schools,” said Hon. Jafo.

Commenting on the achievements made for five years in the Primary and Secondary Education Sector, Hon. Jafo said during that period an amount of Shs. 1.09 trillion has been provided for free education.

He explained that more than Shs. 502 billion has been provided for primary school education and Shs. 593.9 billion has gone to secondary school, which has helped poor children get an education.

“In 2016 many children flooded our schools when they estimated 200 to 400 children, some were able to enroll up to 1,000 students, for example Nyakanazi and Majimatitu schools and other children were enrolled at the age of 10 due to three years back they missed the opportunity,” he said. Jafo.

He further clarified that in the next five years more than Shs. 501 billion has been provided for the improvement of various infrastructure and by June 2020 the construction of 905 new primary schools had been completed thus increasing the number of primary schools from 16,899 in 2015 to 17,804 year 2020.

He also said 17,215 classrooms have been built and increased from 108,504 rooms in 2016 to 125,719 in 2020, equivalent to an increase of 13.7 percent where construction of 3,049 classrooms is underway and when completed the number of classrooms for Primary schools will reach 128,768.

In addition, he said the government has built 228 new secondary schools and thus increased from 4,708 schools in 2016 to 5,330 in 2020.

For his part, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the President, Tamisemi, Engineer Joseph Nyamhanga, said investment and improvements made in the education sector for primary and secondary schools have helped increase the pass rate in the primary school leaving examination from 67.84 percent in 2015 to 81.50 percent in 2019.
